It’s important to know when the timing is right for this procedure. Whether you’re looking to change the size, shape, or type of your implants, or if you’re experiencing complications or dissatisfaction with your current implants, planning a revision surgery requires careful consideration and planning.
One of the most common reasons for revision breast implant surgery is to address changes in your body over time. Weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and aging can all impact the appearance of your breasts and may necessitate a revision to achieve your desired aesthetic goals. Additionally, if you are experiencing complications such as capsular contracture, implant rupture, or implant malposition, it’s important to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options for revision surgery.
Timing is key when planning a revision breast implant surgery. It’s recommended to wait at least 8-12 months after your initial breast augmentation surgery to allow for proper healing and to ensure that your final results have stabilized. This waiting period also gives you time to fully assess your satisfaction with your implants and to determine if revision surgery is the right choice for you.
Before scheduling a revision breast implant surgery, it’s important to have a thorough consultation with your plastic surgeon to discuss your goals, concerns, and expectations. Your surgeon will evaluate your current implants, assess any complications, and recommend the best course of action to achieve your desired results.
According to your current breast implant position, or complications you have, or only for a better aesthetic appearance a replacement of your breast implants with the new ones will be the solution.
When a new implant set will be put after removing current implants,
there will be removal of capsules and the new ones will be put
in a different layer inside your breasts.
While your breast implants are changed, there may be a need of breast uplift surgery if the new implants especially smaller than your current ones.
Sometimes due to your breasts' health or your desire, the implants
are removed after a while.
Whatever the reason is, it is possible and can be planned with or
without an uplift surgery.
A breast uplift surgery may be needed if your current breast implants
are too large compared to your own breasts as when removed
with the capsules, there will be laxity and sagging deformity
at your breasts.

A replacement surgery usually lasts between 1-2 hours, depending on the case and the type of intervention. Normally, the replacement of breast prostheses is very fast.
In selected cases, a volumetric breast augmentation can be achieved using fat from the same patient.
7-14 days after the intervention, the patient will be able to return to her daily routine. However, it will depend on the intervention and the type of work to be performed. Finally, the guidelines for returning to physical exercise will be established with the surgeon.
It is necessary to fast for at least 6 to 7 hours (no food or drink) before the time of surgery. You should also avoid wearing metal in direct contact with the body (such as earrings, chains, watches, rings, etc.) and go with a clean face, without makeup or nail polish.
A blood test, an electrocardiogram and in some cases a chest X-ray will be needed. Depending on the age of the patient or the familiarity of some pathologies, a breast ultrasound, a mammogram or an MRI will be requested.
Before surgery, it is recommended not to smoke or take medications that can alter blood coagulation (such as some pain relievers or some natural products). In addition, in patients who usually take anticoagulants, it will be the doctor who will indicate the suspension.
Depending on the type of technique or surgery, the postoperative period may vary. But in general the discomfort after a breast implant replacement is easily controlled with analgesics.
The result begins to be appreciated from the fourth week after the intervention, once the skin has relaxed. Although it will improve over the next three months, you must wait for the maturation period of the scars to elapse, which in the case of the breasts will be between 6 and 12 months.
No implant is for life! Today’s implants can last more than ten years. We recommend monitoring by MRI at 10 years and every 5 years after that first review. In general, if the results are correct, a replacement of breast prostheses will not be required. In any case, it is advisable to carry out a follow-up between 10 and 15 years. The replacement operation, if necessary, is simpler and less annoying than the primary intervention.
